Cheryl Wikstrom is a resident of the Albany, NY area, but was born in Roseburg, Oregon. She and her husband moved to the area in 2015 with their 3 kids and their dog.
Cheryl’s interest in art started when her parents signed her up for a summer oil painting class. At 12, she learned impressionism and fell in love with art, specifically oils. She continued taking classes as a teenager, but has been primarily self taught.
After trying her hand at other creative pursuits, she returned to painting and found that oil is her true passion. She has shown her work in Roseburg, Oregon and in Albany. She uses an oil glazing technique, applying thin coats, utilizing various pigments’ natural opacities. She prefers large formats that allow her to give full expression to the detail of her subject. She considers herself a macro painter, revealing the depth and detail of the every day.
